Gayle Manchin, wife of Sen. Joe Manchin, in hospital after car accident
Gayle Manchin, the wife of West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, is in the hospital after a car accident in Alabama, her office said Tuesday.
The former West Virginia secretary of education was nominated to serve as the federal co-chair of the Appalachian Regional Commission by President Joe Biden in July. She has not yet been confirmed by the Senate.
Manchin was driving alone on Interstate 65 near Montgomery, Alabama, when her car was hit by a semi-truck, her office said in a statement. She was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Manchin's office did not release any further details about the accident, but said she is "resting comfortably" and is expected to make a full recovery.
