Atlanta Rapper Pleads Guilty to Federal Charges

34-Year-Old Artist Admits to Cocaine and Firearm Possession

Atlanta rapper Rich Homie Quan, 34, has been sentenced to six months in prison on federal drug and weapon charges. The rapper, whose real name is Dequantes Lamar, pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

According to court documents, Lamar was arrested in May 2022 after police executed a search warrant at his Atlanta home. Officers allegedly found cocaine, a firearm, and drug paraphernalia in the residence.

Lamar admitted to owning the drugs and the firearm, which he claimed he used for protection. He also admitted to selling cocaine in the past.

As part of his plea agreement, Lamar agreed to serve six months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. He was also ordered to forfeit the drugs and firearm seized during his arrest.

Lamar's arrest and subsequent conviction mark a significant setback in his music career. The rapper rose to fame in the early 2010s with his hit single "Type of Way." He has since released several albums and collaborated with some of the biggest names in hip hop, including Young Thug, Future, and Drake.

Lamar's legal troubles are not new. In 2015, he was arrested for possession of marijuana and was later sentenced to probation. He was also arrested in 2017 for violating his probation, but the charges were eventually dropped.

Despite his legal troubles, Lamar has continued to release music and perform. He released his latest album, "Rich as in Spirit," in 2021.
